Architectural Tour: Building by Style
The term style defines the key characteristics that make up the front facade of a building, as well as the time period and additional architectural and stylistic features. During the commercializing of both small and large cities, most buildings were built to be seen only from the front. "It is the facade that gives commercial architecture its distinctive qualities and distinguishes one building from the next. Facade compositions can be reduced to a simple diagram or pattern that reveal the major divisions or elements used, " states Richard Longstreth from his book Main Street USA.
