Rudolph Richter
Brief Biography:
Born in Prussia around 1830, Richter came to Bloomington in 1854 as an experienced draftsman. Shortly after he formed a beneficial friendship with Samuel Rounds, a well known contractor and brick maker. Richter opened a school of instruction to teach architectural perspective and other aspects of architectural drawing. Highly regarded for his ornamental iron work and relatively simple preference for the Italianate style, Richter was given opportunity to design all types of buildings both commercial and residential. Buildings such as the Rounds Block on West Front Street. He continued to contribute to the architectural designs and buildings of Bloomington until 1875, when he moved to Indianapolis.
